Volunteer Opportunities
Consider the following opportunities Kinship has available:
Kinship Community Based Mentoring matches an adult with a child or youth. The pair meets “in the community”, i.e. at the mentor’s home sharing a meal, playing a game, going fishing, taking in a play or sporting event, etc. Kinship recommends getting together once per week for an hour or more outside of school and workplace. A minimum commitment of one year is expected, with the option to extend.
Nevis Reading Buddies matches adults with Nevis first graders referred by their teachers. With the focus of developing the love and joy of reading, the pairs meet weekly from October through April. After selecting reading material from the classroom or that provided by the teacher, the pair goes to the library to read for twenty minutes.
Kinship Reading Buddies in Park Rapids matches adults with first graders referred by the teachers. With the focus of developing the love and joy of reading, the pairs meet every other week from October through April. After eating lunch together, they return to the classroom to read for twenty to thirty minutes.
Kinship Friends are individuals who volunteer to help with office tasks, assembling mailings, and/or providing food for group activities and fundraising events.
